The Social Media Election According To "Saturday Night Live"
Nov 5th 2012, 19:14

It's not far from the truth. But that doesn't mean it's the whole truth.

There's a beautiful dichotomy in social media highlighted by this bit on Saturday Night Live: Twitter is simultaneously where the elite political conversation is happening and where people, um, ask their followers to tell them who to vote for.

Previously, unearthing and exhibiting these living spectacles — quick to tell you they would not "bang" Romney — was a territory mined almost exclusively by The Daily Show and late-night talk shows that patrolled local newspapers and broadcasts, or swooped in to exploit unsuspecting color commentators. But Twitter and Facebook expose these people to everybody, en masse, ripe for mockery by anyone, anywhere in any outlet.

SNL doesn't even need to find real people on Twitter or Facebook to mock anymore; we already know they're there.
