A racial and domestic violence scandal hits Waverly, New York, a town with a 97 percent white population.
This image, according to CNN iReport contributor Matthew Dishler, shows three white students at New York state's Waverly High School wearing blackface during a skit at the school's homecoming pep rally:
Three white students were to perform a skit in black face, depicting Chris Brown and Rhianna [sic] most notibly [sic]. In this skit they would display acts of domestic violence as satire to an audience that included not only students but parents, faculty, and various members of the media and community leaders. None of them stopped the skit.
The story, published early Monday morning, has stirred up plenty of conversation in the Waverly community. Students and alumni have shown support and shame. But more often than not, the response seems to be defensive.
