President Barack Obama will travel to New Jersey on Wednesday to view damage from Hurricane Sandy, the White House announced Tuesday afternoon.

Obama will be joined by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and the pair will meet with affected residents and thank first responders.

Earlier Tuesday afternoon, Obama visited Red Cross headquarters in Washington to deliver remarks, commenting about the storm's damage: "Obviously this is something that is heartbreaking for the entire nation."

He added that his "most important message" to people in the coming days and weeks of struggles ahead is "America is with you."

Obama said his message to federal, state, and local governments was "no bureaucracy—no red tape" in getting vital services restored to people impacted by the storm.
