Some Conservatives Freak Out Over Obama Victory

“Today was Pearl Harbor.”

BOSTON — The four years of Barack Obama's first term saw a new era of political vitriol, and it reached its apex on Election Night. Among some conservatives, the reality of Obama's win came as too much of a shock to bear.

Most noticeably, Donald Trump, one of the last truly adamant birthers, went on a Twitter spree, calling for what sounded like a coup d'état to seize back power.

"We can't let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided!" Trump tweeted. "This election is a total sham and a travesty. We are not a democracy!" Brian Williams later mocked Trump's tweets on television.

Journalist and blogger Robert Stacy McCain wrote in The American Spectator that we are "Doomed Beyond All Hope of Redemption."

"The cretins and dimwits have become an effective governing majority, and the question for conservatives at this point is perhaps not, 'What does it mean?' but rather, 'Why should we bother ourselves resisting it any longer?'" McCain wrote.

"At the moment, I am convinced America is doomed beyond all hope of redemption, and any talk of the future fills me with dread and horror," he concluded.

Victoria Jackson said it more simply: "America died."

"I can't stop crying," she added.

Later: "Thanks a lot Christians, for not showing up. You disgust me."

"May God protect us these next four years," tweeted Brendan Steinhauser, director of federal and state campaigns for FreedomWorks. "So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause."
