This is actually an interesting story, so stay with me on this.

Fieldy was born with the name Reginald Arvizu.

First, his friends called him "Gopher" because they said he had big cheeks.

Then they straight up changed Gopher to "Gar."

Which morphed into "Garfield," like the cartoon cat.
